9 to 5 the Musical Starring Louise Redknapp, Amber Davies, Georgina Castle,and Sean Needham, the smash-hit musical features an Oscar, Grammy and Tony award-nominated score by the Queen of Country herself, Dolly Parton.
Doralee, Violet and Judy are three workmates pushed to boiling point by their sexist and bigot boss. After a rooftop "dooby" session the circumstances change and they end up creating a plan to kidnap and turn the tables on their despicable supervisor, the girls reform their office and the lives of its workers, as events unravel when the CEO pays an unexpected visit, the girls lives are changed forever. As are attitudes of some of the male workers.
Inspired by the cult film and brought to you by Dolly herself, this hilarious production is about teaming up, standing up and taking care of business!
Georgina Castle is a fabulous Dolly. As well as her "assets" she also captures her subtle facial expressions and movements around stage.
Amber Davies and Louise Redknapp both command the stage and their solo performances are clean and powerful.
Sean Needham loses his American twang at one point but soon gets it back and brings the audience out in laughter. Whilst dismissive of women and a little over sexual he really creates a character that the audience hate but love at the same time.
Lucinda Lawrence deserves a mention as Roz her solo dance and song number are impeccable and bought the house down with hilarious stripteases, and Paso doble.
The set is impressive with tons of 80s style desktop computers framing the set in a throwback to the busy offices of yester year. And large set pieces slide on and off easily switching scenes with ease and the help of the video wall.
Narrated by Dolly herself this musical is a must see while its in Manchester and on tour around the UK. A laugh a minute from start to end it shows that girl power really gets it all done and above target too.
