Lisa Stansfield

Lisa Stansfield has been around the world for 30 years and she still can't find her baby.
Taking it on tour Stansfield had The Lowry in a early 90s dance party vibe to mark the 30th anniversary release of her debut solo album 'Affection'. Released in 1989 and its worldwide chart-topping lead single 'All around the World' were major breakthroughs in her career, leading to her being nominated for two Grammies.
Lisa and her prodigious band performed the hits and more from 'Affection', alongside other favourites and classics from her seven subsequent solo records.
Each musician had their own time to shine during the evening, one being given a solo in each song. The flautist and the percussion solos performed by Michael Donnelly and Mark Cotgrove stood out seeming to receive praise from their colleagues on stage as well as the audience. It was just 'The way you want it'.
Supported by Jazz Morley, who entertained the early audience with a selection of songs she has written herself.
Born in Crumpsall, and growing up in Heywood and Rochdale the Salford leg of the tour is something of a homecoming performance, and she thanked the sell out crowd.
With the right kind of 'Sincerity' and 'Poison' it was a crowd filled with a 'Mighty Love'.
'This is the right time' , 'You can't deny it' for Stansfield to tour.
4 stars.
